HD Planning & Design Ltd is a multi-disciplinary design consultancy based at 9 Hope Street, St Helier,
Jersey. Founded in 2023 by Adrian Huckson and Ian Dryhurst - two professionals who spent over two decades
working together at Jersey's largest property developer - the practice was built on a simple idea: that
coordinated, integrated design produces better buildings and better outcomes for clients.
We provide planning consultancy, architectural design, building services design, and structural engineering
under one roof. Working collaboratively from the earliest stages of a project means our disciplines are
coordinated from day one - reducing risk, avoiding delays, and ensuring that every decision made in one area of
design considers its impact on the others.
Our experience spans private residential homes, large housing schemes, care homes, commercial offices,
mixed-use developments, and major infrastructure projects. We have delivered work for international banks,
corporate institutions, and private developers across Jersey, Guernsey, and the United Kingdom.
We are based in Jersey and our knowledge of the island's planning system, bye-laws, and construction
environment is second to none. We have been involved in some of the most significant development projects on
the island over the past two decades and bring that depth of experience to every project we take on - regardless
of scale.

Adrian Huckson
Architectural Design Director
Adrian Huckson brings over 35 years of architectural expertise to every project he leads. As the former
Design Director at Jersey's largest property developer, Adrian was responsible for the design and planning of
some of the most significant schemes delivered on the island over the past two decades. His portfolio spans
private residential developments, affordable and social housing, care homes, and major commercial projects
across Jersey and the UK South. Adrian's approach combines design ambition with practical delivery - creating
buildings that are both considered in their architecture and grounded in the realities of construction,
planning, and cost.
Ian Dryhurst
Building Services Design Manager
Ian Dryhurst has over 28 years of experience in building services, beginning his career with a major
electrical contracting company before moving into property development at the highest level. As former
Building Services Design Manager for Jersey's largest property developer, Ian was responsible for the
management and delivery of technical services across a wide range of residential and commercial schemes. His
expertise covers the full spectrum of building services design - from mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
systems through to statutory infrastructure - ensuring that every project is delivered to the highest
technical and regulatory standards.

Planning Consultancy
With deep knowledge of the Jersey planning process built over more than two decades, we provide clear, honest
planning advice designed to achieve deliverable consents. Our planning services cover feasibility studies and
appraisals, policy guidance, scheme refinement, compliance reviews, and support in resolving planning
conditions. We understand the nuances of Jersey's planning environment - the policies, the precedents, and the
practical realities of getting schemes approved - and we apply that knowledge to help clients unlock the most
suitable development path for their sites and ambitions.
Architectural Design
Our architectural design service covers the full project lifecycle, from initial feasibility and concept design
through to planning applications, bye-law submissions, tender documentation, and construction information.
Working in close coordination with our in-house structural and building services engineers, we develop design
packages that are coordinated, cost-conscious, and buildable. Every drawing and specification we produce is
informed by a clear understanding of structure and services - eliminating the gaps and conflicts that so often
cause delays and additional cost on projects designed in isolation.
Building Services Design
Integrating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services into the overall building design from the earliest
stages is fundamental to delivering efficient, high-performing buildings. Our building services team provides
coordinated MEP design from concept through to completion, producing specifications and drawings that treat
services not as an afterthought but as an integral part of the architecture and structure. Our work covers
residential and commercial developments of all scales, including complex sustainability-led projects targeting
BREEAM certification.
Structural Engineering
From initial site appraisals through to detailed structural design, construction drawings, and SER
certification, our structural engineering service delivers efficient and thoroughly coordinated solutions for
every project. Early involvement with architects, building services engineers, and contractors allows us to
develop structural strategies that reduce material costs, streamline build programmes, and resolve coordination
issues before they reach site. We manage civil engineering and drainage design in close liaison with external
consultants and statutory authorities, ensuring a complete and joined-up approach to every project.
